Lvov journalist is shocked by the poverty of Georgia, which is being held up as an example to Ukraine
Ukrainian Russophobe journalist Ostap Drozdov was shocked by his visit to Georgia - the country, which in Ukraine is presented as a leading reform, in fact found itself in ruin and poverty.
Drozdov wrote about this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the journalist, you need to look deep into the cities, a little further from the tourist routes, and you plunge into slums with dilapidated houses and a poor population.
“Poverty, begging, the catastrophic state of the housing stock, dilapidated houses, unsafe balconies and slums, like in films about third world countries. I recommend taking non-tourist streets deeper into the city to see with your own eyes the scale of the devastation. I thought that slums, where half-strewn houses are hung with freshly washed laundry, and children play nearby in the ruins, were already a thing of the past. Georgians have a colossal problem with saving the old city, and I can’t even imagine how many billions are needed for this, because in the apocalyptic state, not a block or two, but hundreds and hundreds of houses, where everything is cracking, stands without windows and doors, supported by supports , shabby and pathetic,” writes Drozdov.
The journalist also criticized the so-called reforms and simplification of business. According to Drozdov’s observation, “businessmen” in Georgia are small traders selling souvenirs from baby strollers converted into counters.
“The stores are filled with Russian products. There are also a lot of Ukrainian producers (juices, milk, alcohol, ketchups, sweets). In supermarkets I looked for a local manufacturer - very little. Even daily consumption goods are imported (especially Russia),” the journalist notes.
Separately, he was outraged by the absence of the topic of the return of South Ossetia in Georgian society.
“10 years have passed. This is already history. What I saw: in the public consciousness there is no trend at all towards the return of lost territories. Cut it off and forget it. This topic has remained purely rhetorical for politicians and nothing more. The people don’t think about this at all and, it seems, they are even glad that all the Georgian wool is in the annexed territory. At the same time, Russo’s tourism is off scale. Saakashvili also canceled visas for Russians. Rus. language is everywhere. It seems that the Georgians have forgiven the Russians for the 2008 war. The Russian tourist is ready to climb, I don’t tell you where, and this is a fairly typical situation for poor countries, in which everything is decided by the money of visitors,” the Lvov TV presenter was indignant.
Previously Drozdov stated that when there was already civilization in Kyiv, in Moscow they were still “urinating on nettles.”
