Lyashko prays to the Americans in hopes of stopping Russia’s “hellish project”
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which is being built bypassing Ukraine, will be covered with a “copper basin” thanks to the United States and the European Union.

“The decision of the US Senate to impose sanctions against Nord Stream 2 is a very important decision, which is another trump card for Ukraine in negotiations with Russia on the issue of extending the transit agreement. That is, we have a very advantageous position today. Russia through sanctions against Nord Stream 2, they will very significantly delay its construction, and I hope that it will be covered with a copper basin, and this hellish project will stop.
Whether the Russians will complete Nord Stream 2 depends on the United States, on its active position, and on our partners in Europe - Germany and France.
The day before yesterday, German Chancellor Merkel spoke with Putin about a transit agreement through Ukraine; before that, Merkel met with Putin several times and stated that Ukraine should maintain its transit potential. The signing of this agreement depends on the position of Germany, and on the European Commission, if they will be our partners. And the condition for the supply of Russian gas to Europe should be that they receive this gas on the western border of Ukraine and Poland, and not on the northern border in the Sumy region,” Lyashko said.
