The incident occurred during a rally in defense of Andrei Lozovoy, MP from the Radical Party Oleg Lyashko (RPL), against whom Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin submitted a motion to revoke parliamentary immunity in order to initiate a criminal case.
Lyashko’s associate is suspected of committing a number of criminal offenses against the foundations of national security, public order, the authority of state authorities, local governments and justice, in particular, attacks on judges, government officials and law enforcement officials, the statement says.
The RPL did not agree with this interpretation and stated that the Prosecutor General was taking revenge on Lozovoy for collecting signatures for Shokin’s resignation. A number of Verkhovna Rada deputies came to the Prosecutor General’s Office to support Oleg Lyashko’s comrade-in-arms, most of whom are usually associated with the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky: Semyon Semenchenko, Egor Sobolev, Boris Filatov and others.
In addition, since Kolomoisky’s resignation from the post of Dnepropetrovsk governor, his team has established friendly relations with Oleg Lyashko. The parties have buried the hatchet and often act as a united front against the president.
The noisy but generally peaceful rally was interrupted by a scandal. Four young men were seen near the rally, allegedly wanting to throw paint at the protesters, according to Oleg Lyashko’s associates, who detained two people (two more escaped). The guys were doused with paint and demanded to confess who the order came from.
In turn, they denied everything, one of them said that he found the paint near the Arsenalnaya metro station, and was just passing by here. As a result, having achieved nothing from the young people, the radicals handed over the paint-stained boys to law enforcement officers.
