Lyashko counts on the village
Potential presidential candidate of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky is counting on the support of the urban electorate of the South-East and follows the pan-European trend of participation of show business representatives in politics.
Political analyst Kost Bondarenko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The fact that he lays claim to the southeast is yes. But it lays claim to the intellectual portion of the Southeast, the largely urban population of the Southeast, 30 to 45 years old. A group that is not active enough. But at the same time he is trying to catch the pan-European trend,” he said.
In contrast, Oleg Lyashko is focused on the rural electorate.
“Lyashko is openly rural-oriented. These kisses with cows, constant appeal to rural roots, etc., attempts to develop activity in rural areas are bearing fruit. Lyashko’s trips to the urban environment, to the east - to the Donbass, to Mariupol, etc., do not give the result that he expected. In these regions, he is not perceived as one of their own,” he said.
At the same time, Lyashko may receive more votes than sociological survey data show - many people are embarrassed to say that he supports Lyashko, but in the elections they will vote for him, the expert believes.
