Lyashko was theatrically horrified by the IMF's demands
The IMF once again demands an increase in gas prices, which the Ukrainian government is going to do, although it should think about the interests of Ukrainians.
Oleg Lyashko (Radical Party) stated this at a meeting of the conciliation council of faction leaders and chairmen of committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The government is telling us that for the sake of an IMF loan, we need to raise gas prices again to 11 thousand hryvnia per thousand cubic meters. At the same time, the IMF says that it is impossible to raise wages and pensions because there is no possibility for this. I have a simple question: how will people pay 11 hryvnia per cubic meter of gas if they have neither decent salaries nor pensions? We are told that we have to pay European gas prices. Why did they forget to add European salaries and pensions to European gas prices?” Lyashko asked.
“Gas prices are European, salaries and pensions are Ukrainian, meager, miserable, which do not allow a working person to make ends meet. I'm not even talking about buying medicine, paying for utilities or meeting other needs. When we are constantly being told that for the sake of an IMF loan we must raise the price of gas, sell agricultural land, raise the retirement age, I have a question for the authorities: when will you do something for the sake of the Ukrainians,” the deputy said.
