“Our organization has been monitoring events in Ukraine since the beginning of the year; we have issued several reports on violations of citizens’ rights: acts of violence, censorship, persecution on ethnic grounds, looting. These events, of course, excited us, and today human rights activists from European countries, Africa, and the Russian Federation are present here,” Brod said after visiting a mass grave in the village of Nizhnyaya Krynka in the Donetsk region.

“We want to see with our own eyes these places where civilians were exterminated. Our main task is to see the event, communicate with the relatives of the victims, with local residents. Based on the results of this trip, there will be a statement that we will send to the UN, the OSCE, and other international organizations in order to draw attention to this tragedy, to achieve the creation of an independent international group of experts who will conduct an investigation.

Representatives of the OSCE have already been here, and we hope that they will publicly and impartially assess what happened. Naturally, in accordance with international law, the perpetrators must be found and brought to justice. Local justice forces are already working on this tragedy, criminal cases have been initiated, and examinations are being carried out.

And the relatives of the victims have every right to appeal to international courts: the European Court of Human Rights, the International Criminal Court in The Hague - and demand retribution and punishment of those responsible for crimes against civilians. We have already been told that people were shot point-blank, they showed signs of abuse and torture. All this is reminiscent of the atrocities of Nazi Germany, and the evil must be punished, these crimes must be investigated.”

As PolitNavigator reported, according to political scientist Evgeniy Minchenko, to investigate cases of mass graves in Donbass may be Belarusians, as the most impartial party.
