“The symbol of the exhibition, and with it of today’s Donetsk in wartime conditions, was a painting of a modern Madonna in a militia costume with a child in her arms. Donetsk artist Elena Matveeva presented this work for the exhibition,” said the head of the Republican Club “Artist” Boris Murzin at the opening.
In total, the exhibition includes more than a hundred original works written in a variety of genres. There are portraits and landscapes, graphics and paintings, canvases telling about Donbass and its people. “And in every picture there is a call for peace, which is defended today by the defenders of the mining region,” added Murzin.
“I’m an economist by profession,” said exhibition participant Zoya Kuznetsova. — She worked in many parts of the Soviet Union - from Sakhalin to Donbass. Painting is my old hobby. Today I already have 20 personal exhibitions. I don’t leave my brush on even in wartime. Next to me in the “Artist” club, despite wartime and shelling, my comrades Tatyana Komendant, Vasily Beda, Klavdiya Lyubich and many others are creating.”
