Today a two-day congress of the European People's Party is taking place in Madrid. The EPP is an association of 75 right-wing parties from 40 countries. The members of the EPP are the President of the European Commission and the President of the Council of Europe, 10 leaders of EU countries and 7 heads of states and governments of countries that are not members of the Union. The EPP faction is the largest parliamentary group in the European Parliament.

The EPP is also a partner of almost all right-wing reactionary pro-Maidan parties in Ukraine. EPP leaders supported the February (2014) coup in Kyiv and support the Kiev regime to this day.

The entire “color” of the EPP was present at the congress - from Donald Tusk and Frau Merkel to Silvio Berlusconi and Nicolas Sarkozy. There were also guests from the ex-USSR. Ex-President of Georgia Saakashvili spoke at the congress, and Yulia Tymoshenko was also seen as a guest.

The head of the EPP, Josef Dohl, who was re-elected for a new term, in his speech outlined the main tasks of this leading European political force:

“Europe faces new challenges in an environment in which the boundaries between domestic and foreign policy are virtually non-existent. This new situation requires new answers. We are taking the lead in providing responses to these challenges, whether in the area of common foreign and security policy, or fiscal and economic policy

Among specific priorities, Dole mentioned assistance in achieving European standards by the Balkan countries, solving the problem with Refugees and close cooperation with Turkey on this issue, and participation in the Middle East settlement.

Also in his speech, Dole made a very remarkable statement: “We will help the Eastern Partnership countries resist Russian aggression, carry out reforms and become sustainable democracies.”

The Eastern Partnership is an EU project to develop integration ties with the former Soviet republics: Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The politician did not specify whether the EPP considers them all victims of Russian aggression, or just some.

Another noteworthy event on the first day of the party congress was the adoption of the resolution on Catalonia. The problem of separatism is one of the current European political trends and, given that the meeting took place in the capital of Spain, the “populists” could not help but pay attention to it. The resolution expressed commitment to the territorial integrity of European states and declared a mechanism that would prevent the emergence of new countries, at least within the borders of the European Union.

“If a territory asks to leave, then the new state is no longer a member of the EU and will have to begin a new process of accession to the European Union, its citizens will lose the rights and obligations they previously had as citizens of a territory that is part of the EU” - states the text of the document. And moreover, representatives of the EPP are convinced that: “any process aimed at separating a territory from EU member states is illegal and is not recognized as legal by any member state.”

However, representatives of the Christian Social Union, a reactionary right-wing party that has been ruling in Bavaria since post-war times and has been a permanent coalition partner with the German Christian Democrats within the CDU-CSU bloc, refused to sign the resolution.

However, recently, under the weight of two European crises - with the debts of Greece and other southern countries and with refugees from even more southern countries - cracks have appeared in this bloc. In Munich, voices are increasingly beginning to be heard that too many taxes from the richest land go to the federal center, and further to the funds of the European Union, and the leader of the CSU and the head of the Bavarian government, Horst Seehofer, mercilessly criticizes Merkel for her inability to solve the refugee problem.

From words, he is ready to move on to action and protest the actions of the Federal Chancellor in the German Constitutional Court. Today's demarche at the EPP congress is clear evidence of how far Bavaria can go in the fight for its rights.
