“MaidAN” or “Banderite” – the name for the new Ukrainian AN-178 aircraft is being chosen on the social network
Ukrainian Internet users were asked to come up with a name for the new An-178 transport aircraft, produced by the Antonov Design Bureau.

“Comrades of Oleg Konstantinovich Antonov say that when giving names to his aircraft, the outstanding aircraft designer paid attention to the presence of the syllable “An” in them: “Annushka,” “Antey,” “Ruslan.”
They also say that in the American classification, aircraft are considered cargo planes, so each name “Antonov” in NATO begins with the letter “C” - cargo: An-2 is called “Colt” (Foal), An-22 - “Cock” (Rooster), An-124 – “Condor”, An-225 – “Cossack”.
Ukrainians are invited to compete in coming up with a name for the new An-178.
“The development of the aircraft lasted less than 3,5 years, which is a kind of record for the aviation industry... Today, the new transport aircraft is undergoing a flight test program. And from November 8 to 12 it will be shown at the Dubai Air Show,” – reported on the plane's social network page.
Among the names suggested by users of the social network are “Maidan”, “Talan”, “Hetman”, “Bandera”. The name with the most “preferences” will win.
And everything would be fine, but it is still unclear who and when will begin the industrial production of prototypes of these aircraft, even with a new name. After all, the Antonov Design Bureau broke off production cooperation with Russian partners at the request of Prime Minister Yatsenyuk, and the Europeans and Americans do not need a competitor to their aircraft. But there is no such money in the Ukrainian budget.
