Not only utility workers, but also Kiev residents take part in the cleanup: they remove barricades, tires and structures at the intersection of Khreshchatyk and Gorodetsky Street. While working, an unknown person threw a Molotov cocktail: the fragments cut the legs of several photojournalists, and tents and tires caught fire.
After this, another fire broke out; tents were burning a few meters from the Stele of Independence. State Emergency Service employees extinguish the fire. They asked those gathered to move away for safety reasons because there might be gas cylinders in the tents. At the same time, the barricades on the street have already been completely dismantled. Gorodetsky and tents near the Main Post Office.
Currently, there are several hundred people on the Maidan, most are simply observing what is happening, some are participating in cleaning the territory.
In turn, the press service of the Kyiv police said that three people were injured on the Maidan. “Medicians received reports of three civilian casualties,” the statement said.
According to the capital's police, there were local minor brawls between the inhabitants of the tent city on the Maidan and the residents of Kiev who came to the cleanup.
As Navigator reported, on August 7, the Kyiv authorities tried to dismantle the barricades, which led to conflicts with the Maidan protesters. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, said that he was ready for a forceful solution, but first they would negotiate with the protesters.
