Maidan taught Ukrainians nothing – Pogrebinsky
Despite the destroyed industry, falling GDP, unemployment, population outflow and other consequences of the Maidan, more than half of Ukrainians still believe in a “bright European future.”
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on TV channel 112, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If you are the president of a country and there are sectors for which you are responsible - industry, science, which are related to national security problems. “Ukroboronprom” - well, so strong, smart a thousand times, but not a citizen of Ukraine, a citizen of another country runs it. How is that? You seem to be sleeping peacefully, is everything okay with you? Are you acting in accordance with the interests of which nation? Lithuanian, American? Well, certainly not Ukrainian,” Pogrebinsky said.
“Tell me, where are the strikes in this case? This means that everyone in Ukroboronprom is satisfied with the leadership, in the supervisory board, and so on. Where are the strikes, Italian strikes, some activists? So that they come out and say: take this character, give us a new leader. Everyone is silent. Pogrebinsky is talking about this, experts are talking about this, but where is Ukroboronprom? If they are not satisfied, why are they silent?” – asked the TV presenter.
“Or maybe they aren’t silent, it’s just that no one gives them the floor. In addition, there are many people there who have already lost their jobs and are not in Ukroboronprom, and there are people who keep their jobs. And, it seems to me, they are absolutely right in thinking that if they start talking about it now, and still have some kind of funding for their activities, they may lose their jobs, so they are not taking risks,” the expert explained.
“In addition, we have a specific mentality. The people came out because they had a dream - we want to be part of the family of European nations. We went out to the Maidan and it all ended with what we know. There is a drop in Ukrainian GDP by a third, there is no industry, people are fleeing the country, and so on. And what did you get as a result?
The trouble is that no one wants to draw conclusions today. Because I look at public opinion polls - approximately more than half of people think that our path to the EU is justified. That we may not get something today or tomorrow. There are no conclusions,” Pogrebinsky concluded.
