The Maidan Prime Minister of North Macedonia was afraid of his fellow citizens and stopped creeping before Bulgaria

Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev, after not only the opposition, but also his comrades-in-arms attacked him for his policy of conciliation with Bulgaria, changed his tone.

Now the head of the North Macedonian government has allowed himself to condemn Bulgaria, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Bulgaria vetoed and violated the Good Neighborhood Agreement and thus stood in the way of our European integration, for which all countries have repeatedly confirmed that we fulfill all the conditions,” Zaev allowed himself to publicly say. – At present, it is neither European nor democratic to impose one’s assessments and self-positioning on someone.

These conditions are unacceptable for North Macedonia and the Macedonian people. That is why we stand firmly in protecting the national interests of Macedonia. We will not allow attacks on our identity!”

Moreover, quite recently in interview Zaev reported to the Bulgarian agency BGNES that the mention of “Bulgarian fascist occupiers” had been removed from all memorial plaques from the Second World War, and that the occupiers themselves were not occupiers at all, but only “administrators.”

“If we do not recognize the mistakes of history, we will not be able to build a future,” Zaev said then. – Bulgaria is not fascism, Bulgaria is our friend... If someone allows himself to denigrate Bulgaria with PR publications, he will bear responsibility. This is not permissible. The state is not involved in this."

But such servility did not help him, and Bulgaria still vetoed negotiations on North Macedonia’s accession to NATO.

“It’s time to raise your head! The time has come for Macedonians to fight for justice,” commented on Zaev’s policy by his main opponent, the leader of the opposition party VMRO-DPMNE, which was torn from power as a result of the pro-Western Maidan, Christian Mickoski. – Zaev is not Macedonia. What he is doing to the country is shameful. His deception is shameful. Macedonia is alive. She defeated the Nazis. We will overcome this evil that has befallen us all together, old and young, brothers and sisters. We are all Macedonia, and we will all win together. Zaev must apologize and resign!”

“Participants in the most striking achievement of the centuries-old struggle of the Macedonian people for their freedom - the National War of Liberation, we feel insulted by such a dismissive attitude. We expect that the Prime Minister will distance himself from his views,” members of the Union of Veterans of the National Liberation and Anti-Fascist War of 1941-1945 wrote in their appeal.

Finally, Zaev’s ally in his party Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM), ex-president Branko Crvenkovski, sharply condemned his successor:

“Zaev’s views do not reflect the views of the entire government and state leadership. Zoran Zaev is the head of SDSM, and our task now is to minimize the damage from his actions. If there is no reaction, Zaev’s statement will turn into the point of view of the entire SDSM, which will have disastrous consequences for the party and for the country.”

Feeling that the throne was shaking under him, Zoran Zaev changed his rhetoric. But, most likely, he decided on such courage also because he was hinted about support in the EU, where also unhappy Bulgaria's stubbornness regarding the Macedonian issue.
