Maidan activists are losing their position in Ukrainian society
In Ukraine, the number of those who consider the events on the Maidan to be an illegal armed coup is growing, and, conversely, the number of those who consider those events to be a people’s revolution is decreasing.

Diana Dutsik, executive director of the Detector Media NGO, spoke about this at a press conference in Kyiv, where the results of the sociological study “The Influence of Russian Propaganda on Public Opinion in Ukraine” were presented.
She compared data from a similar study conducted in February 2015, noted that the percentage of negative assessments of the Maidan in Ukrainian society increased over this period and called this trend “negative.”
“If in 2015, 27 percent agreed with the statement that the events of the winter of 2014 were an illegal armed coup, now this figure has increased, and such people are 34,3 percent. It seems like an insignificant increase, but it is still there and, probably, we need to think about it: why is this happening? The number of people who believe that the events of the winter of 2014 are a people’s revolution has also decreased. In 2015, this figure was 61 percent, and now it is 56,4 percent. This is such a negative trend,” Dutsik said.
The survey was conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology from December 3 to December 12, 2016. 2040 interviews were conducted with respondents living in 110 settlements of Ukraine (in territories controlled by the Ukrainian government). The study was carried out with financial support from the Swedish Embassy in Ukraine.
