There cannot be a change of power in Armenia to a pro-Western bloc, since the country will begin to lose its territories.

Political scientist Yuri Romanenko, who previously actively supported the Kiev Maidan, spoke about this on his YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“If we assume the situation that the power changes in Armenia, and it will focus on the States or Europe, although it will rather be focused on the United States, because it will be problematic to focus on Europe for the simple reason that the EU today is closing itself off from problems, because He himself has big internal problems. Also, regarding Armenia, Europe would not want to conflict with Russia, so I think that the EU can be immediately written off,” the expert believes.

According to him, if pro-European politicians come to power in Armenia, they will again have to quickly negotiate with Russia, because Germany, France and the United States will force them to do so.

“Would they like to have such a foothold? Theoretically, it would be nice for the United States to get it, but the question is how ready they are for this in conditions when Trump is trying to curtail an expensive foreign policy, limiting funding for the State Department, and trying to curtail its military presence. For example, a few days ago he announced that we were leaving Syria, and then some time later he launched a missile attack on it. Trump's task is to optimize spending on foreign policy and concentrate on domestic problems.

Therefore, he is in no hurry to get into such problem areas, especially since Armenia is located in the generally recognized zone of Russian influence. Therefore, I am skeptical about the prospects for the so-called Maidan in Armenia and the prospects for the country’s rapid drift into the pro-Western camp. This country is strongly bound by its external challenges and is too dependent on support from Russia,” said the political scientist.

He also noted that Armenia is highly dependent on Russia, and under any government it will need to build friendly relations with the Russian Federation.

“Another option I forgot. Let’s imagine that a pro-Western bloc comes to power in Armenia. What prevents Russia from turning a blind eye to Azerbaijan’s aspirations to return Karabakh? And even throw him weapons at lower prices, in order to bring the Armenians to their senses and so that the threat will force them to return to the fold of Russia and continue to be a satellite of the Russian Federation. I think there's nothing stopping you. Therefore, as soon as a pro-Western government comes to power in Armenia, there is no doubt that guns will roar in Karabakh and Azerbaijan will try to take back the situation for itself.

Therefore, I look at the protests in Armenia as a story connected with internal struggle, with internal discontent, because, apparently, life in Armenia is not sugar, and there is ground for discontent, but these dependencies determine, at least today , the result that can be achieved in such a poor and resource-limited country as Armenia,” said Romanenko.
