Yesterday's comrades in the coup in Ukraine staged a public internecine squabble at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada today. The reason was the situation surrounding the removal of garbage from Lviv - due to the closure of local landfills and the refusal of other regions to accept trucks, the capital of Galicia is littered with waste.

Yesterday, the leader of the faction of the Lviv mayor's party "Samopomich" Oleg Berezyuk went on a hunger strike, accusing the administration of Petro Poroshenko of deliberately "drowning" the mayor Andrei Sadovoy.

Therefore, today, at the beginning of the Rada meeting, the lion’s share of time was devoted to mutual accusations of “European democratic forces” in “zrada,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The first to attack was Oksana Yurynets, a member of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction. She stated that due to the inaction of Mayor Andrei Sadovoy, Lviv was on the verge of an environmental disaster. The BPP also called on the mayor to voluntarily resign: “Today Lvov is actually dying. It is turning from a central European city into a stinking dump, and even worse, into an environmentally threatening city. When the air temperature rises, it becomes a threat to the health of the residents of our city... We need to save not Andrei Ivanovich (Sadovoy, - author.), and residents and guests of Lvov from garbage. Mr. Sadovoy, for three cadences you had the opportunity to solve this garbage problem, but even the tragedy at the Gribovitskaya landfill, when people died last year, did not push you to do this. This is despite the fact that garbage collection was one of your main election promises, not to mention the fact that it is your immediate responsibility as the head of the city... Andrei Ivanovich, immediately resolve the garbage issue or voluntarily resign. Yes, resign because you can't do it."

Samopomich immediately responded that the mayor of Lvov cannot solve the garbage problem due to the machinations of Petro Poroshenko’s administration, which is deliberately “framing” the mayor and the head of the competing party.

“You may never have the kind of problems that you have in Lviv until the state closes your existing landfills. We demand from the government, the President of the National Security and Defense Council, to allocate a reserve landfill for the construction of the waste plant without delay. We also demand the allocation of a plot of land that would comply with state building standards for a new testing site, and not those so-called proposals that are not even worth the paper they are written on... The policy of pacifying opponents has two consequences - protest and slavery. Lviv residents, like all Ukrainians, will never be slaves again,” said deputy Irina Podolyak.

The president's representative in parliament, Irina Lutsenko, immediately accused her opponents of lying, saying that Sadovoy has both the authority and the money to build a waste incineration plant and develop solid waste landfills:

“A very strange situation has developed in the country when the issue of garbage showed the moment of truth. What does it consist of? When we began our term, one of the first reforms we launched was decentralization reform. What is she talking about? The central government performs only functions; all powers; 80% of the funds collected go to local budgets. And responsibility for this money also falls on local budgets. What we see is that in the Lviv region the community elected a mayor in democratic elections. 700 million hryvnia have been on deposits for the 16th year. A question from the public: why doesn’t Mr. Sadovoy use this money to build waste incineration plants, restore infrastructure, urban transport, and repair roads? Why does he force his deputy to go hungry and go to bed at the very moment when the president left the country? This is called irresponsibility, this is called admitting one’s incompetence, this means that a person cannot fulfill his duties... There is enough money in the Lvov budget to bring this historical city from an environmental disaster to a thriving tourist center,” Lutsenko said.

Sadovoy’s party comrade, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Oksana Syroed, rushed into a retaliatory attack.

“You lied from the moment you said that you would live in a new way, but in reality you simply saddled yourself with old schemes, you lied when you promised to change the election law, which allowed Yanukovych to concentrate power, because this law serves you today. You lied for 25 years when you promised to limit parliamentary immunity, you promised to investigate the crimes of the Maidan, but you are afraid to expose yourself. You promised a blind trust, but the people saw the light when they saw your declarations. Behind the reforms you promise is a simple redistribution of flows. You are stealing from the defense budget... You sold out the Constitution when you offered special status in exchange for additional powers for the President. I wonder what factory you will sell the state for this time?!” – Syroed shouted, blaming Poroshenko’s supporters.

Yulia Tymoshenko’s “Batkivshchyna” also tried to get its dividends from the “garbage scandal” by using the “one Yulia – D’Artagnan” strategy. Tymoshenko member Sergei Sobolev made an accusatory speech.

“I don’t remember this level of political madness, when they are ready to drown entire cities in garbage, including the UNESCO monument Lviv, in a single year in parliament... What are Prime Minister Groysman and President Poroshenko doing? How can we call this blasphemy, which was carried out by representatives of two factions here? Instead of immediately creating a government and presidential commission and actually declaring Lviv a natural disaster zone, instead of immediately allocating special testing grounds... and doing everything possible to resolve the issue, some of us are dizzy from the polls. That's not what you're doing. I think that the time of political repression that began in Ukraine is a good reminder to those who did not understand the lessons of Yanukovych. Although, what do they understand - they then worked in the Yanukovych governments, collaborated with the entire Yanukovych gang,” Sobolev said.

Opening new landfills and building a waste processing plant in the Lviv region will also not be easy - residents of nearby settlements do not want to be adjacent to environmentally hazardous facilities
