Maidan activists set a course for the destruction of mining towns
The reforms adopted by the Maidan authorities are bringing the mining towns of Donbass to the brink of a man-made and social catastrophe.
Deputy Sergei Sazhko stated this at the press center of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The city of Lisichansk, Luhansk region, was on the verge of a man-made and social disaster. Our faction received an appeal from the Lysichansk city mayor Sergei Shilin and acting. General Director of PJSC "Lisichanskugol" Zimin about help and preventing the occurrence of an emergency due to a stop in the power supply to mines as a result of the new law on the electricity market.
Until January 1, the Luhansk branch of the state enterprise “RES” supplied power to the enterprise, the amount of debt to which amounts to more than one and a half billion hryvnia. Since January 1, in accordance with the law on the electricity market, electricity supplies to coal mining enterprises have been carried out by NEC Ukrenergo, which receives payment in accordance with the rules of the retail market, and in an ultimatum threatens to turn off electricity in case of non-payment.
This is not only in the Lugansk region. Selidovugol, the Yuzhnodonbasskaya mine, named after Surgai are also in the same critical situations. Selidovugol currently has about two hundred million hryvnia in arrears,” said the people’s deputy.
“The threat of non-payment can lead to a stop in the power supply to mines, which will lead to a stop in ventilation and the loss of coal mining enterprises, which, in turn, will lead to a man-made disaster and a social explosion. This is a threat not only to the mines, but also to the cities where they are located. Because these are single-industry towns - if the budget is not filled, the cities die,” added Sazhko.
