The commander of the operational company of the Crimean special forces "Berkut", Major Alexander Vasyukov, stated this at a press conference in Sevastopol.
“While I was there, there were no snipers from us - we were not given weapons.
It stayed here. This was strictly prohibited by the leadership of the headquarters. We had shields, and not everyone had them, sticks and helmets, protection for our arms and legs,” the officer said.
According to Vasyukov, on February 18, the radicals began to directly use firearms.
“Our company was in front. A fighter from Yevpatoria died before my eyes. Then I was wounded, another one followed me - he has a bullet in his lungs and they won’t pull it out,” the officer explained.
“Firearms were initially used under cover of darkness. And then we tried it during the day - nothing came back. It’s so good to be heroes,” he added.
It is impossible to cause injury with stun grenades, the officer emphasized, and there is nothing to shoot back with:
“Their snipers began to shoot at the Dnepropetrovsk Berkut officers who were sitting in the bowl. In 10 minutes, about 10 people were carried out. The fact that they returned to Crimea is a miracle.
It is difficult for me to explain to the civilian population what awaited them here. We are military, this is our duty, what do they have to do with it? Such crowds of nationalists would pour here now.
There are no radicals here only because they are afraid to come here. They understand that here too it will fly in their direction,” Alexander Vasyukov is convinced.
