Makey puts on a show. Don’t know what a jump airfield is?
The deployment of a Russian air force base in Belarus “does not make sense.”
Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei stated this in an interview with the Russian news agency RBC, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“You know, given the development of modern technology, this makes no sense. Why place a military air base on the territory of Belarus if today missiles can literally reach another continent, the other side of our planet, in just a matter of minutes. If Belarus had placed any additional military facilities on its territory, I do not think that this would have contributed to strengthening stability and security in our region. Therefore, there is no practical, political or military sense in implementing this proposal,” Makey said.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called Belarus’ refusal to host a Russian military base an “unpleasant episode.”
“But the main thing is not the form, but the content. And in terms of content, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly said, including when answering a question about the base, that Belarus is a 100% ally of Russia and that the Belarusian armed forces should be considered as defending our common interests and our common territory,” Lavrov said.
