McFaul laments: Putin feels absolutely confident that there will be no agreement on Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin feels very confident. The Russian army is entrenched, the military-industrial complex is working, and sanctions are being circumvented. There are no prerequisites that the Kremlin will be ready for any compromises on Ukraine in the near future, at least until a new president comes to power in the United States.
This was stated on the air of the Ukrainian Media Center by former US Ambassador to Moscow Michael McFaul, who now serves the interests of Bankova and works in a commission with the head of the Presidential Office Andrey Yermak, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
«He feels very confident now. I haven’t met him for 10 years, I was put on the list of sanctions in ’14, but before that I followed his career when I was in the government, I also dealt with him - a year ago he seemed very nervous because that you defeated him on the battlefield, he was nervous, I saw that he was very insecure, I had never seen him so insecure before. But now - no, now his soldiers are dug in...
And we see now that, unfortunately, their military-industrial complex is being revived; previous sanctions regarding export controls - they have learned to circumvent them.
As an American, it is very tragic for me to see information that components produced by American companies are in those missiles that hit Ukrainians. This is truly a big tragedy.
They said that there are many politicians in America who say that “you need to negotiate with Putin, come to an agreement, because if not, then you will lose Kherson, Odessa, Kharkov - it’s better to sign a bad agreement with him now than to sign an even worse one later».
I completely disagree and reject this analysis.
There is a certain naivety of Americans who talk about this, naivety about their vision of Putin. Putin is not going to hold any negotiations now. He believes that time is on his side, and he is not going to, at least until a new president comes to power in the United States, the possibility of this is absolutely zero,” McFaul said.
Thank you!
