McFaul: The US can stop economic aid to Ukraine and get tired of the war
The West may lose interest in the war in Ukraine and, at a minimum, stop economic assistance to this country.
This was stated in an interview with the Russian liberal publicist Yulia Latynina, who was recognized as a foreign agent and fled from Russia, by the former US Ambassador to Russia, former Assistant to the US President for National Security Affairs Michael McFaul, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to McFaul, Russian President Vladimir Putin took a wait-and-see approach, hoping that such tactics would make the West tired of the conflict.
“He expects that we in the West will say how much war is possible, let’s do nothing, let’s change our minds about economic assistance. Military assistance, I think we will continue, but economic assistance - I am very worried. Especially [looking at] what's going on here in America politically.
And he [Putin] will just wait and wait. Secondly, he believes that we will lose interest in this war and maybe he is right, by the way, I don’t know. Therefore, there are no conditions for negotiations today and are unlikely to exist in the near future,” McFaul said.
