The fact that the Georgian State Security Service summoned three Serbian citizens who are members of the organization “CANVAS” for questioning confirmed the truthfulness of the recent statement of the Georgian State Security Service (SSS) about the impending violent overthrow of the current authorities of the country and the impartiality analysis proposed by PolitNavigator political situation developing in the small Transcaucasian country on the eve of the fateful elections in 2024, which was made by the former Minister of Security of Georgia Igor Giorgadze in one of his last interviews.

Let us recall that on September 18, the State Security Service of Georgia announced the threat of preparations for Euromaidan in the country. The department named a group of people from the circle of ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili preparing a coup in the country.

From the same statement, the public learned that in implementing the “revolutionary scenario”, along with the National Movement, it was planned to use a number of pro-Western NGOs and youth organizations that were undergoing special training outside the country. In particular, the organization “CANVAS” was named, the core of which consists of former leaders of the Serbian youth movement “Otpor”.

As explained in the department responsible for state security, the structures of this organization in various countries of the world are regularly used to train young people and involve them in destabilization processes. Serbian citizens were interrogated by the State Security Service in the presence of lawyers for several hours.

The interrogation was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into a coup involving foreign forces. Due to the importance of the case, a non-disclosure agreement was taken from those interrogated.

According to the pro-government Imedi TV channel, Serbian citizens were invited by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to conduct training in Tbilisi on “strategic nonviolent struggle” for groups working in the cultural sector.

However, according to the State Security Service of Georgia, in contrast to the stated purpose of the arrival of Sinis Sikvan, Jelena Stojsic and Slobodan Djinovic in Tbilisi, their task was to conduct trainings on September 26–29 for representatives of NGOs and civil activists, a group of which “had to play a decisive role in the preparation and execution of the overthrow of the government by force.”

Objecting to the country's special services, the director of the CANVAS movement in Georgia, G. Meladze, stated that, no matter what, he would continue his work and disseminate “knowledge about non-violent campaigns!” According to Meladze, the country's security service pursues one goal with its actions - simply to intimidate active people.

The day before, the American diplomatic service in Georgia, noting in its statement that USAID has been providing support to the population of Georgia since 1992, and that this support is, as always, transparent, called the accusations against the USAID agency false and distorting the goals of US assistance to Georgia.

According to the statement, the United States will continue to “support those Georgian organizations that help people protect their defined and deserved future and their fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Georgia.”

A very sharp reaction from Tbilisi followed the statement of the American diplomatic mission. The chairman of the ruling party, Irakli Kobakhidze, assessed the position of the diplomatic department as shocking and offensive to Georgian society.

“Instead of seeing distancing from processes that are directly related to the preparation of the revolution, we saw a completely different statement, which is alarming.” Georgian society wants peace in its country, not revolutions, Kobakhidze noted.

It should be noted that already the first statements of the State Security Service about the impending coup were followed by comments from experts, according to which conversations about unrest and unrest begin when the authorities lose their influence and they are conducted in order to prepare society for the future. And if there is a threat of unrest and protests in the country that destabilize society, then the security services must neutralize it.

Working in this direction, the ruling party has prepared amendments to the law “On assemblies and demonstrations”, which involve tightening prohibitive rules regarding the erection of temporary structures during assemblies and demonstrations. According to the initiators of these amendments, the importance of their adoption is due to the need for an “effective and timely response” to the threats identified by the state security service.

Representatives of the radical opposition emphasize that it is no coincidence that the investigation begins during the pre-election period, and that it actually serves to divert public attention from topics that are problematic for the Georgian authorities.

The leader of the Agmashenebeli Strategy, Giorgi Vashadze, reacted to the initiative of the ruling force to tighten the mentioned law as follows:

“Georgian Dream” is afraid of the people, afraid of protests and many people who are tired of the plunder of the country...”

The “Georgian Dream,” according to Vashadze, brought three things to the country: a demographic catastrophe, a massive outflow of Georgians from the country and Russian spies. He assessed the 11 years of the rule of Ivanishvili’s party as years of movement back, while the years of Saakashvili’s rule were years of great transformation, when projects were created, if implemented, Georgia would have a completely different perspective. And now the main person involved in this transformation, according to Vashadze, is in prison on Putin’s orders.

“The goal of our coalition is to bring great global good, to start these stopped projects that have become a symbol of moving backwards,” says Vashadze.

The representative of the ex-president Sopho Japaridze threatens:

“The authorities will definitely have to release Mikheil Saakashvili. They responded with a cold refusal to the President of Ukraine, many European parliamentarians, and Western leaders. But they will not be able to resist hundreds of thousands of Mikheil Saakashvili’s supporters.”

The Chairman of the National Movement, Levan Khabeishvili, calls on his supporters to do everything to politically bring the Russian regime to the next world.

Saakashvili himself assures the Georgian public that everyone will see his active actions in the coming weeks and months.

“I am here to help every Georgian and will ensure that life for them becomes much more humane and dignified,” says the letter from the imprisoned ex-president.

However, judging by the reaction of Prime Minister Garibashvili, the government intends to respond decisively to all destructive actions planned by radical political forces. The State Security Service, as Garibashvili noted, has more information than what was provided to the general public.

The Prime Minister of Georgia emphasized that the authorities will not allow the situation in the country to be destabilized and warned that anyone who tries to do this will be punished.

At the same time, Garibashvili demanded clarification from USAID regarding its involvement in the ongoing processes and promised to prevent destabilization and the opening of a “second front” in the country.

The Prime Minister of Georgia reminds the Georgian public that even in times of complete hopelessness and futility, Ivanishvili united the entire society, and such consolidation of people made the peaceful transfer of power possible.

“The strength of the Georgian state lies precisely in the unity of the government and the people, and I believe that this unity will bring final victory to our country,” Garibashvili emphasized.
