The West does not believe that NATO will become a party to the conflict if France sends troops to Ukraine. Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the Politeka internet channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The expert was asked how Macron’s aggressive foreign policy rhetoric is combined with statements after the terrorist attack in the Moscow region that France intends to expand cooperation with Moscow in the fight against ISIS groups banned in the Russian Federation: “We know how deeply this hurts Russia».

“Whoever watched Macron’s interview with the Ukrainian media will not be surprised by such statements. In fact, Macron offered Putin - Either agree to freeze the conflict, or we will give troops to Ukraine and raise the stakes in this situation. I got this impression because he said “peace” fifteen times. Perhaps China’s position is also behind Macron; China and France today have a special relationship.

Perhaps Macron is offering Russia a deal in this way. Not in Ukraine, but, for example, in Africa, where ISIS structures are also strong, and where it is not so painful to divide spheres of influence, these countries could agree. The Caucasus is the same situation, Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia, where both Russia and France have serious influence. Perhaps Macron is offering a deal for, relatively speaking, the countries of the South, where Muslim radicalism is really present, for Russia with this kind of statement,” Bortnik said.

He added that France is raising the stakes, but the problem is that Moscow only wants to talk to Washington.

"In the same time French media constantly publish scenarios of how France, under different types, can send troops to Ukraine - from engineers to factories, ending with the French Foreign Legion, that is, the information pumping continues. Macron formally discussed the issue with the French military and parliamentary parties in France.

That is, France is demonstrating its readiness to raise the stakes, demanding that Russia agree to some kind of agreement. But the fact is that Moscow wants to negotiate with Washington, and not with Paris or Berlin, especially since Moscow does not believe that there is a need to negotiate with Kiev,” the political scientist emphasized.

Nevertheless, in his opinion, Macron’s militant plans are very realistic.

“The other day I discussed these ideas with experts from one very powerful country in the world, and there is a common understanding that even thisIf France deploys its troops, then NATO will not interfere in the situation, and it will not be a war between Russia and NATO. This will be a war between Russia, Ukraine, France and others who want to join this coalition.

That is, this is an international war, it does not transform into a world war. Therefore, Macron’s scenarios are treated quite calmly, which makes them very realistic,” Bortnik concluded.
