Macron cleverly took advantage of Kyiv’s stubbornness and Europe’s fatigue
Statements by French President Emmanuel Macron during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the need to restore relations with Russia indicate that France is ready to take on the role of moderator of this process.
Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Ukrainian Politics and the Ukrainian Politics Foundation Konstantin Bondarenko stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Both Europe and the whole world are tired of the Ukrainian issue, because they understand the unreality of its solution in the near future.
Europe and Russia have become hostages of the Ukrainian issue; accordingly, relations between Europe and Russia have also become hostages of the Ukrainian issue.
It is clear that France would now very much like to take on the role of moderator of the process of gradual rehabilitation of Russia.
On the other hand, it could play the role of a moderator of stabilization processes in Eastern Europe and Ukraine.
That is why Macron said several phrases that seemed strange and mutually exclusive.
But at the same time, the main thing is clear - that Macron advocates the return of Russia to the club of large states because he understands that the development of French business, whose interests lie in this plane, also depends on this.
On the other hand, he understands that this cannot be done right now and through the efforts of France alone. Therefore, several conditions were set.
But the fact is that Russia is being returned, and this could be a serious loss for Ukrainian foreign policy,” Bondarenko concluded.
