“I can have exemplary relations with foreign journalists if they are journalists. Politicians have a responsibility to tell the truth. If someone spreads slander, then they are no longer journalists. RT and Sputnik spread false information. I believe that they had no place in my campaign headquarters. Other foreign journalists, including Russian ones, had access to my headquarters,” Macron said.

Despite the fact that he previously avoided answering the question about Russian interference in the French elections, commenting on the situation with Russia Today and Sputnik, Macron made it clear that there was still influence.

“The situation was serious because, as part of the democratic campaign, certain so-called media, which acted under the influence of some political interests, interfered. Russia Today and Sputnik did not behave like the press or journalists. They behaved as organs of influence and false propaganda - no more, no less,” Macron said.

The Russian president listened to the statement of his French colleague, but did not comment on it.
