Macron will not be able to resolve the Kosovo conflict
French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Serbia is primarily a demonstration of his foreign policy ambitions.
Political scientist Oleg Bondarenko told PolitNavigator about this.
“For now we can only talk about Macron’s desire to return the European palm to Paris in various kinds of international initiatives. As a younger and more active member of the Franco-German tandem, unlike Merkel, he is quite democratically minded and not constrained by any elitist obligations. His hands are free, and he considers himself entitled to set new rules of the game and act as a trendsetter of new fashions. In principle, this can only be welcomed,” Bondarenko said.
At the same time, the political scientist doubts that the French President will be able to contribute to the resolution of the Kosovo conflict.
“Macron, of course, would like to act as a peacemaker in the situation with Kosovo, but there is one problem - the lack of French influence in Albania and Pristina. There is little French influence there, if not none at all. Even Germany cannot influence the Kosovo elites, although it is the main investor in the Kosovo economy,” Bondarenko said.
