Macron tried to appear equal to Putin, but the meeting could be useful for Donbass
The new young President of France, Emmanuel Macron, at yesterday's meeting with Vladimir Putin, tried in every possible way to appear equal to the Russian leader, given the upcoming elections to the French parliament. Despite this, negotiations between Putin and Macron could be useful in changing the situation around Donbass for the better.
This opinion was expressed to PolitNavigator by political scientist Denis Denisov, director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflict Studies.

“Macron was puffing himself up, I got the impression that his main task was to demonstrate that he was an “equal”, and he did not always succeed.
It was clear from the press conference that there were a number of problems, but the leaders were striving to improve relations between the two countries, and they intended to end the conversation with journalists on a fairly positive note.
And then an unplanned question regarding sanctions appeared. To put it mildly, things were said that were not entirely pleasant for Russia and, apparently, not entirely adequate in that situation.
However, Macron’s interest, at least in words, regarding the intensification of the Normandy format and the Minsk process can be encouraging. If this attitude is translated into concrete actions, then it is quite possible that the process will receive a new impetus, which could have a positive impact on achieving peace in Donbass,” Denisov noted.
