Macron believes Russia must “make an effort” to be reinstated in the G7
French President Emmanuel Macron sees no reason to restore the GXNUMX format with Russia, but advocates strengthening the dynamics in the strategic dialogue with Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The French leader stated this in an interview with the French-language Swiss television channel RTS.
“I believe that today Russia must make efforts... I believe that as long as there is no clear and effective progress in the Minsk process, there cannot be a restoration of the G8,” emphasized the President of France, which currently chairs the GXNUMX.
Macron ruled out the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the G7 summit, which the French side will host on August 24-26 in Biarritz, due to the lack of progress in resolving the “Ukrainian crisis.”
Instead, he said he plans to step up the momentum of the strategic dialogue with Moscow in the coming weeks and discuss the issue personally with Putin.
As you know, Russia was expelled from the G8 format after the events in Crimea and the start of the war in Donbass.
