Little Moldova against Rothschild - without hope of success
Moldova has virtually no chance of canceling in an international court the deal on the purchase of Chisinau International Airport by Nathaniel Rothschild’s NR Investments Ltd.
Vice-Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Mihai Poposoi stated this on the air of the NTV Moldova television company, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If the government decides to annul the deal through the courts, it is not entirely clear who will have to sue: the previous owner or the new one. We must understand that there are big risks and consciously take them upon ourselves. The trial will last a certain amount of time, we will spend a certain amount of millions of euros, but in the end we may achieve nothing. Because both the past and the current owner have more money for litigation than the government of Moldova. This is a problem for all small poor countries, including in the WTO,” Poposoi said.
However, he believes that it is necessary to try to challenge the deal.
“I’ll tell you my personal opinion - you should at least try if the probability of success is at least 50% in an international court, and if it requires less than 10 million euros,” Popshoy said.
Two days ago, Nathaniel Rothschild finally became the owner of Chisinau International Airport. His company NR Investments Ltd now owns 95% of the shares of Avia Invest. The previous owner, oligarch and husband of singer Jasmine, Ilan Shor, fled the country.
