Small businesses will shell out their last pennies for “decorations” for local elections
The current Ukrainian government is trying to win over the low-income electorate on the eve of the elections, which explains the adoption of bill No. 3963 “On Amendments to the Law “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2020,” which provides for an increase in the minimum wage from September 1.
Political strategist Nikolai Volgov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The president and the mono-majority are trying to impose the agenda that is always traditional for the current government - “reduction” right here, right now, and even more so - for those voters who are socially vulnerable and older. These are the ones who go to local elections.
The turnout there will be about 40-45 on average in the country, and of this 40-45%, probably 80% of voters will be over 45 years old for sure. Therefore, we see the need to demonstrate a result that will at least allow the president and his party to save at least some face.
Local elections are always a competition between party press services in this vein - who better interprets the results: “independent candidates won, but they are not really independent, they seem to be with us” and everything else. That's why they take these steps.
First of all, the burden will fall on small businesses. In post-quarantine conditions, it is generally unclear what will happen to us in the near future, how we will end the year. And small businesses will receive an even more serious burden, because the rating of the current government needs to be saved.
Well, we see that the system has gone haywire, and now the president no longer dictates, he is trying to impose some kind of agenda, some kind of format. But we see that he no longer dictates terms. His strategy is the absence of a strategy - just a situational response to any challenges. And what you, voters, thought up for yourself a year and a half ago are your personal problems.
No one will send representatives of international structures to a well-known address, as you have seen in films, the oligarchy continues to play first fiddle in parliament, and perhaps the discussion regarding early elections is connected with this,” said Nikolai Volgov.
As stated in the explanatory note to the bill, it is proposed to carry out additional budget expenditures to increase the minimum wage by increasing revenues from personal income tax and value added tax on goods (works, services) produced in Ukraine, taking into account budgetary compensation.
