“Little Schengen” will solve the problems with labor shortages in the Balkans
Serbia will continue its path to full membership in the European Union, but at the same time strengthen its strategic partnership with China and Russia, and establish good political relations with the United States.
This was stated by the Minister of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs of Serbia Zoran Djordjevic, speaking at the World 2020 conference organized by Color Media Group.
“This is why regional integration is important, especially to unify the labor market so as not to interfere with the movement and exchange of labor,” Djordjevic said, recalling that Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania agreed to remove obstacles to the free movement of people, capital and goods.
“I hope that other countries in the region will join this “little Schengen” because this is the best preparation for their accession to the EU,” the minister said, stressing that Serbia needs to boldly carry out the necessary reforms “to take big steps forward.”
Deputy Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Vladimir Marinkovic noted that the rate of economic growth in Serbia this year exceeded plans and amounted to 4,8% in the third quarter, and foreign direct investment will soon exceed 3,5 billion euros, the Tanjug agency reported.
The day before, Serbia, Albania and Macedonia in the Macedonian city of Ochrus agreed on the principles of a common economic space. It is expected that from 2021 the borders between them will become transparent, and the free exchange of goods, people, services and capital will begin.
According to the author of the “small Schengen” idea, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, even before the New Year, citizens of the three countries will be able to travel within common borders without foreign passports.
