President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko awarded the former commander of the Belbek air unit Yuliy Mamchur with a personalized pistol. This was reported by the presidential press service.

The former pilot, and now a people's deputy, received the award for his “feat” in Crimea.

“The whole country remembers your unprecedented campaign under the Ukrainian flag and with the Ukrainian anthem, calmly looking into the eyes of the enemy, when you defended the honor of the Ukrainian military in Crimea, this will go down in the history books,” Poroshenko said.

Let us recall that on March 4 last year, Mamchur and his subordinates, having previously invited Western media to the place, singing the Ukrainian anthem and shouting “America is with us,” approached the Crimean self-defense checkpoint, after which he was declared a hero in Kyiv.
