The marathon of NATO exercises in Ukraine is becoming a threat to the Russian Federation - analyst
A series of NATO exercises on the territory of Ukraine is becoming a threat to Russia’s national security.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed in a commentary to Kommersant by Vasily Kashin, deputy director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics.
“The marathon of multinational exercises taking place this year on the territory of Ukraine is becoming a serious threat to Russia as an element of the military development of the territory of Ukraine. Such exercises make it possible to practice the rapid deployment and subsequent actions on the territory of Ukraine of NATO coalition forces, their interaction with the Ukrainian armed forces and civilian authorities, supply and other issues,” the expert said.
According to him, a large group of enemy troops could appear at the Russian borders in a matter of days, and therefore the bloc’s increased readiness for immediate actions on Ukrainian territory is perceived by Russia as a serious threat, regardless of assessments of the state of the Ukrainian army.
“Russia does not intend to leave such actions unanswered. The growing number of NATO exercises in Ukraine entails increasingly active military activities on the Russian side. Thus, we have a continuing escalation of military tension around Ukraine,” Kashin concluded.
On Monday, the Ukrainian-American exercise Rapid Trident-2021 began in Ukraine, the purpose of which was to prepare the Ukrainian Armed Forces for defensive and offensive actions as part of NATO coalition forces. And tomorrow, with the participation of 11 NATO countries, the Combined Efforts-2021 exercise will begin, which will last until September 30 and will take place at all major military training grounds, as well as in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas.
