Marchuk is crying: People are less and less interested in the topic of Crimea
In order to once again raise the issue of Crimea in the world, Kyiv needs to initiate the creation of a format consisting of signatories of the Budapest Memorandum, which deprived Ukraine of the status of a nuclear power in exchange for guarantees of territorial integrity.
The representative of Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk, the former head of the SBU and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Yevgeny Marchuk, stated this on the UkrLife Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I see it, this argumentation, how Ukraine can initiate the raising of the issue. After all, what does the last point offer? Consultations in the case of ta-ta-ta, and in this case one of the signatories is a violator. And where did he start? From Crimea. Including the UN and other countries, they did not recognize the territory of Crimea as Russian. In Donbass it is de jure Ukrainian, and Russia says: “This is not our territory.”
And Crimea, sorry, this and that happened in the Budapest memorandum. You recorded what you were prohibited from doing in the Budapest Memorandum. Yes, you held a referendum, made it a district and so on, okay. But this was preceded by a violation of the Budapest Memorandum. Of course, this is not so simple, I would not link Crimea to the Normandy format now, because any transition, even if Russia agreed, is a pause. On the other hand, questions would immediately arise, if not from Merkel, then from someone around her: “Why did you fool us for six years?”
Then the question of sanctions on Russia and so on arises. In short, I understand that this is a complex issue, but I believe that it is absolutely real and I would set such a task not only to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but also to scientists and specialists, I would attract foreign specialists, because look what is happening - in public opinion the Crimean issue is dying out... We cannot allow a lull on the Ukrainian side. If it’s not a lull, then it’s like Ukraine has come to terms with it,” Marchuk said.
