Mariupol found itself in a transport blockade
Mariupol Metallurgical Plant named after. Ilyich and Azovstal will not be able to export their products by rail, since Ukraine has never built a normal railway line to Mariupol, bypassing the DPR.
An expert at the Institute of the Future, Igor Tyshkevich, stated this on UKRLIFE.TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Cargo flow through the ports is already falling. The port chiefs are already shouting about this. Shippers are trying to redirect their cargo flows. If you look at the map of Ukraine and look for a good railway there, Mariupol is actually in a state of transport blockade. The fact is that we hope that Donbass will soon return to us, we will again transport through Donetsk. But even if this happens, the roads through Donetsk will be operational in a year or two. That is, we didn’t bother to build a normal road,” the expert noted.
According to him, it is easier to get to Kyiv from Kramatorsk than to Mariupol.
“The railway line to Mariupol has a very significant limitation on the number of trains that can pass per day. I doubt that it will be able to transport the entire volume [of products] of MMK im. Ilyich and Azovstal, if the port of Mariupol closes. That is, we have a problem with transport infrastructure and logistics. This makes exports more expensive,” Tyshkevich concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, residents of Mariupol are fleeing from a city controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
