The Mariupol City Council is being intimidated by “letters of happiness” from the Sprechenfuehrer
All officials and deputies are obliged to conduct their work exclusively in Ukrainian, otherwise they will deal with the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language of Ukraine.
This was stated by deputy from the “Power of People” faction Ekaterina Sukhomlinova during the broadcast of a meeting of the city council of Mariupol occupied by Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Gentlemen deputies, I have a very important address, albeit a purely technical one. Before we begin to consider the issues on the agenda, I would like to remind us all of the need to comply with the laws of Ukraine and the regulations that we all approved at our convocation.
This applies, first of all, to those who sit on the presidium, because the mayor and secretary’s disregard for the rules that are mandatory for everyone according to the regulations are considered unacceptable. It was very nice to hear your opening speech and congratulations to the children in Ukrainian.
Therefore, I convey the demand of part of society and my own about compliance with the law of Ukraine on ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language,” the collaborator said.
“If you need it, then here are the laws, articles (showed pieces of paper - ed.). Our secretariat sent a memo to everyone, to each of our deputy corps. If necessary, Mr. Mayor, I printed it out for you, because you really like accuracy. The points are listed there: all officials, deputies of the city council are obliged (this is not a request, you are obliged!) to conduct their work here in Ukrainian. So that you don’t be offended when you receive “chain letters” from our language ombudsman in Ukraine,” Sukhomlinova threatened.
Earlier, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language of Ukraine, Taras Kremin, stated that those officials who do not pass the exam on knowledge of the Ukrainian language should relieve oneself from one's posts.
