Markov was arrested in Italy in connection with the broken lip of a Tyahnibokov activist
Today's arrest in Italy of ex-member of the Verkhovna Rada from Odessa Igor Markov is connected with Ukraine's request to Interpol in the case of the politician's participation in a fight during which Ukrainian nationalists who were protesting against the appearance of a monument to Catherine II in Odessa were beaten. In this case, Markov had already spent several months in prison during the time of Viktor Yanukovych.
Such data was disseminated by the Committee for the Salvation of Ukraine, of which Markov was a member.

“This afternoon in Italy, Interpol arrested a member of our Committee, a deputy of the Ukrainian parliament of several convocations, Igor Markov, who went to this European country to hold negotiations with deputies of the Italian parliament and to organize cooperation of the Committee for the Rescue of Ukraine with the European media. In 2 days, the trial of our comrade should take place in Genoa.
The reason was Ukraine’s appeal to the international criminal police organization regarding the so-called “broken lip” case of 2007, which had long been closed for lack of evidence.
Recall that it was fabricated as a result of a clash between members of the Motherland party, whose leader is Igor Markov, and Ukrainian national fascists during the installation of the monument to Empress Catherine II in Odessa. Allegedly, Pavel Kirilenko, a people's deputy from the Freedom party "Freedom", was made the victims of this political order. But in the absence of evidence, it was closed.
However, due to the fact that Igor Markov, as a member of the Party of Regions, constantly opposed the policies of the current President Yanukovych and his team of “young reformers,” this incident was again used for political reprisal against the rebellious fellow party member. As a result, Igor Markov, without legal grounds, was deprived of parliamentary immunity in October 2013 and ended up behind bars, from where he was released in February 2014, immediately after the coup in Kiev, as a result of the closure of his case by the court,” the report says.
Markov’s associates appeal “to Interpol President Mireille Balestrasi, parliamentarians and the leadership of Italy and the entire European community with a call to prevent political reprisals against the opposition forces of Ukraine and to prevent his extradition to the criminal Kyiv regime on this ridiculous charge.”
