Markov described how Europe’s war with Gazprom turned out
As a result of a sharp increase in gas prices, European countries that depend on the import of this fuel will receive numerous blows to all sectors of the economy. Enterprises that cannot withstand high tariffs will be forced to close, and a large number of the population will be left without work.
All this is the result of the policy of Western leaders who do not want to establish normal operation of the Ukrainian gas transportation system and launch the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which was built by Russia.
Political scientist Sergei Markov stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“Well, it will be a little colder in Europe, the cost of blankets, warm woolen socks and other paraphernalia will increase by 200-300 percent. I think that several tens of thousands of people will die prematurely from heart attacks and strokes, because it is cold, narrowing of blood vessels occurs and provoking heart attacks and strokes in cold winters.
Plus, several thousand businesses will not be able to withstand such high energy prices and will close, leaving people without work. Subsidies will be required that will not go to healthcare, education, technology, and development will decrease.
That is, the effects will be very numerous, negative, small, distributed throughout the economy. The reason for these highest gas prices is the inadequacy of the governments of European countries, which are pursuing a completely inadequate energy policy.
They fight for the environment, but as a result they suffer environmental damage. Now, they cannot launch Nord Stream 2, ensure the normal functioning of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, and as a result, significantly less gas is supplied than it could be.
But this is purely their political failure, because gas is not only very important for the economy, but also an environmentally beneficial type of fuel. Before this, they closed nuclear power plants in many countries - all this led to the fact that they are now re-opening coal mines and coal-fired thermal power plants, and mass purchasing of coal. And this is the most environmentally polluting type of fuel. But what can you do, now it will be like this,” Markov concluded.
