Markov: “A new Putin appeared in 2014”
If until 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin perceived the West as competitors, but gentlemen, now - as gopniks.
The correspondent of PolitNavigator reports this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, the famous Moscow political scientist, general director of the Institute of Political Studies Sergei Markov said.
He does not agree that Putin poses a threat to the world, as Western propaganda tries to portray.
“Vladimir Putin is not dangerous, but they, the West, are dangerous. Which are perpetrating monstrous aggression against our country. And who, in order to justify their aggression and their criminal actions against Moscow, specifically create the image of a dangerous Russia. It’s like hooligans who approach an intellectual in a park to attack him and try to pretend that it was he who was rude to these hooligans and caused their aggression. Not really. These are hooligans trying to beat up an intellectual,” Markov said.
He notes that there are plenty of examples of this kind.
“Establishment of the junta in Kyiv in 2014. Demonization of “criminal actions”, “mass political repression” of a large neighbor - and against this background, the suppression of the Russian language both in Ukraine and the Baltic states, a gross violation of democratic principles, the creation of the status of non-citizens, the deprivation of political rights of millions of Russian people. A deceitful information war that flagrantly violates the principles of freedom of speech and other principles. And with these actions they are trying to justify their future crimes,” the expert is convinced.
According to him, seven years ago it finally became clear to Russia that the West could not be trusted.
“The new Putin has existed since 2014. That year, the West trampled all its declared principles of democracy and freedom of speech, and everything else, by carrying out a coup in Ukraine. They blatantly deceived both Yanukovych and Putin at that time. Then it became clear that Western politicians were a gang of cheaters. You can't trust a single word they say. Putin then became “new”. Before that, he perceived them as competitors, but as gentlemen. Now he perceives them as rich gopniks,” Markov concluded.
