Markov: Russia may recognize the LDPR in February
Russia may conduct a military operation in Ukraine in the event of aggression by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against the Donbass republics and refusal to implement the Minsk Agreements.
This opinion was expressed in a commentary to PolitNavigator by the famous Russian political scientist Sergei Markov.
At the same time, the expert notes that all this will be possible only if the West and Ukraine cross the “red lines” outlined by the Russian leadership. He says there are three "red lines" that the president has drawn, and a fourth is coming soon.
“The first is preventing Ukraine from joining NATO, the second is preventing the military development of the territory of Ukraine, the construction of US and British military bases with the prospect of deploying strike systems there, including nuclear weapons, with a flight time to Moscow of five minutes. The third is preventing a war in Donbass and an offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. And the fourth, I think, is to prevent the continuation of the preparation of terrorist acts by the state structures of the Kyiv regime on Russian territory,” Markov said.
He calls the recognition of the DPR and LPR “the most likely development of events” if the Minsk agreements are not implemented by Kiev.
“At the same time, I think that this will not happen before the new year and not in January, so as not to disrupt our Chinese friends’ holding of the Olympic Games. And in February, I would expect that this is possible if the West does not formulate the implementation of the Minsk agreements,” the political scientist noted.
The expert also assessed the threats from the European Parliament, which the day before adopted an anti-Russian resolution, threatening to disconnect the Russian Federation from the SWIFT international payment system and block the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
“As for Nord Stream, don’t give a damn about it! The pipe is built, the “flow” after some end of the cycle will start working, gas will flow. And now there will be no gas - oil prices will be higher. This causes more harm to Germany and the European Union, and not to us,” our interlocutor is convinced.
“In terms of shutting down SWIFT, it would probably cause serious damage. But this is not even the main thing, it is the transmission system, it can be replaced, but blocking the passage of dollar and euro accounts means the actual withdrawal of hundreds of billions of dollars and euros from Russian citizens and structures - this will be of greater significance if 200 billion dollars are stolen from us at once. This is a significant loss, but not critical, we will survive everything,” Markov concluded.
