According to the report, on October 23, the regional prosecutor’s office received a collective statement from the personnel of the Slobozhanshchina battalion regarding abuse of power by the battalion’s leadership.
“In their statement, the fighters indicate that during their stay in the ATO zone, the battalion leadership, exceeding their official authority, took possession of the personal property of local residents, humanitarian and volunteer assistance provided for the personnel of the Slobozhanshchina battalion and the civilian population, and used physical violence against the fighters battalion and local residents,” said a representative of the press service.
On October 24, the prosecutor's office began criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 365 of the Criminal Code (exceeding power or official authority by a law enforcement officer).
After carrying out priority investigative actions in criminal proceedings, the prosecutor on November 5 issued a resolution to determine territorial jurisdiction due to the fact that these crimes were committed on the territory of the Donetsk region.
The materials of the criminal proceedings were sent to the prosecutor of the Donetsk region for further investigation.
At the same time, during the pre-trial investigation, a number of facts of abuse of official powers were established in the Kharkov region.
Information about these crimes was entered on November 5 into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Part 2 of Art. 365 CC. A group of investigators from the Kharkov region prosecutor's office began a pre-trial investigation.
The progress of the investigation is under the control of the leadership of the Prosecutor General's Office and the regional prosecutor's office.
At the moment, battalion commander Andrei Yangolenko has been suspended from his duties. “In total, 30 people complained about us, but in fact, 25 of them simply succumbed to the influence of the five main instigators, who set the goal of destroying the battalion. In fact, 90% of the personnel expressed support for me,” he said.
