The decommunization machine spared Nevsky Lane
The Kiev City Council rejected the proposal to rename Nevsky Lane to Nivsky in the Shevchenkovsky district of the capital, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
City deputy from the Unity faction Vladimir Yalovoy sharply opposed the renaming, reproaching his colleagues for not even informing the people of Kiev about their renaming.
“The Verkhovna Rada’s decision on decommunization has almost been completed in Kyiv, we have exceeded the plan, everything is fine. Today you vote, even the people of Kiev don’t know what we are voting for, do you understand? At least announce which streets you are renaming and to what. “I am categorically against renaming Nevskaya Street to Nivskaya, because there is the Alexander Nevsky Temple,” he said.
The renaming of Tverskaya Street to Gedroitsa Street was also failed.
However, with their next decision, deputies of the capital city council renamed Krasnaya Presnya Square in the Podolsk district to Shchekavitskaya Square.
