They want to extend the mask regime and physical distance until next year
If the imposed antiviral restrictions are abruptly lifted, a second surge in the epidemic of COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, may begin.
The representative of the World Health Organization in Russia, Melita Vuinovich, stated this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, answering the question of whether Russian regions need to lift antiviral restrictions.
“If all restrictions are lifted very early, a second surge of the epidemic will begin, which may be more serious. It can take people and medicine by surprise. The virus, unfortunately, will not go away. It will be among people, so you always need to be ready to identify each sick person and his contacts. Early detection of new cases helps quarantine small groups of people rather than the entire population,” the WHO spokeswoman said.
According to her, a return to normal life will require that all employers develop infection safety measures in the workplace.
“This means maintaining physical distance and wearing a mask, as well as hygiene of hands and surfaces,” Vuinovich explained. “The measures may be inconvenient for people, but they will help keep the virus under control this year and next. Until such time as stable herd immunity develops or a vaccine appears.”
