Mass detentions in Kharkov: Security forces seize participants of the “Peace March” (VIDEO, PHOTO)
Kharkov, September 27 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Ukrainian security forces are carrying out mass detentions in Kharkov of participants in the “Peace March” against the war in Donbass, which was announced the day before by the Communist Party, but local authorities did not approve the application for the action under the pretext of possible provocations.

“According to the application of the city organization of the Communist Party of Ukraine, one and a half thousand people were supposed to walk along the main Sumskaya Street past the Mirror Stream fountain to Freedom Square at noon and hold a rally near the Lenin monument. However, the regional department of the SBU has received evidence that the peaceful march of the communists will be used by unconstructive forces to create various conflicts and destabilize the situation in Kharkov,” Deputy Mayor of Kharkov Igor Terekhov told reporters.
“Peace and tranquility in the city are important to us. Therefore, we cannot agree to carry out this action,” the official added.
However, the organizers of the “Peace March” decided to hold the rally, despite the government ban. Ukrainian security forces responded to this with mass arrests. Police cordons were drawn up to the site of the procession. And BRDM vehicles with Ukrainian flags drove along the central streets several times.
A small group with red banners and posters “No to War”, “Yes to Peace!” was immediately surrounded by police in riot gear. Speakers into the microphone noted that law enforcement officers today are preventing a peaceful protest for the sake of the authorities, which came thanks to the militants who pelted the police with Molotov cocktails.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Arsen Avakov, declared the participants in the march against the war to be separatists.
“The commune-separatist rally in Kharkov is over. The police detained two dozen people who violated the ban on this anti-Ukrainian rally. Among others, the main Kharkov communist, ex-people's deputy Alla Aleksandrovskaya, was detained. With shouts and calls “Ukraine is not a state,” she needs to talk with the investigator at the regional department, and not run for the Ukrainian Parliament!” – Avakov reported on Facebook.
“Those who moan about the lawlessness of the police, contact the Russian IW immediately. Add evidence to the criminal case against me in the Investigative Committee of Russia,” the chief Ukrainian policeman snapped.
