The mother of pregnant Sobchak is concerned about the ban on abortion
Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets avoided a direct answer to Senator Lyudmila Narusova’s question about how she views the initiative to introduce a ban on abortion.

“Of course, reducing the number of abortions is a huge plus for our demographics, but this decision must be balanced and justified. In our country, compared to last year, the number of abortions has decreased by almost 100 thousand, but their number in absolute terms continues to remain very high: for every 1,9 million births, there are still 700 thousand artificial terminations of pregnancies,” Golodets said, speaking today in the Federation Council .
Earlier, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' signed an open appeal from citizens to ban abortion. The authors of the appeal, the text of which was agreed upon with the Patriarchal Commission on Family Issues, Protection of Motherhood and Childhood, advocate a ban on abortion, calling it “the legal killing of children before birth.”
They demand legislative changes aimed at recognizing “the status of a conceived child as a human being, whose life, health and well-being must be protected by law.”
Lyudmila Narusova is the mother of TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak, who is now pregnant.
