Sentsov’s mother did not deny his guilt
The mother of terrorist Oleg Sentsov, sentenced in Russia to 20 years in prison, appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to pardon her son.
The text of the letter was published on his blog by the editor-in-chief of the radio station “Echo of Moscow” Alexey Venediktov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“To the President of the Russian Federation
Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin
from Sentsova Lyudmila Georgievna
I appeal to you with a request to pardon my son Oleg Gennadievich Sentsov, born in 1976, who was sentenced by a Russian court to 20 years in a maximum security colony on charges of organizing a terrorist group.
All mothers love their children and want freedom and happiness for them. It is difficult for me to judge the degree of guilt of my own son, although I know him as a peaceful citizen and a person passionate about his profession - film directing.
I will not convince you of Oleg’s innocence, although I myself believe in it. I'll just say that he didn't kill anyone. He has already served four years in prison. His children are waiting for him; his youngest son suffers from autism. They feel bad without him. They will never be happy without their father.
I ask you, Vladimir Vladimirovich, to show mercy and pardon Oleg Sentsov, not to ruin his life and the lives of his loved ones. We are waiting for him at home,” says the letter dated June 22, 2018.
It is noteworthy that Oleg Sentsov’s mother continues to live in Crimea. At the same time, in an interview with the Dozhd TV channel, she said that in 2014 she could not go to the referendum on the ownership of Crimea because she was ill.
At the same time, answering a clarifying question about how she would vote today, “for” or “against,” she said: “Well, yes, probably. Yes, it’s still Russia.”
Thank you!
