In an interview with Novaya Gazeta, military journalist Orkhan Dzhemal, an eyewitness to the events of June 30, said that, according to his information, the women from the bus shelled in Donetsk, who took part in the “bloodless capture” of the military unit, were not at all relatives of soldiers from military unit - as DPR officials and most Russian journalists tried to present it. “And it should be noted that when I dug further into this topic, the women were not the mothers of soldiers who serve in this unit... In several interviews, Zaporozhtseva talks about the “spontaneous” birth of the organization at the moment “when the need arose to help the Berkut and internal troops fighters.” The organization’s employees, according to Zaporozhtseva’s words, even sheltered Berkut employees for some time, “because they were being hunted.” Among other things, “Mothers of Ukraine,” according to their statements, helped the families of fallen soldiers and officers organize funerals.
At the beginning of June, in an interview with the same Russia Today TV channel, Zaporozhtseva said that in May she “had to get involved” in helping victims of the “Odessa Khatyn.” By the beginning of June, according to Galina Zaporozhtseva, she was already coordinating the evacuation of children from eastern Ukraine to Crimea. Why did I negotiate with the camp directors in Crimea, and then go to Moscow?
Zaporozhtseva said that “she and her comrades themselves invited the Russians to a rally of soldiers’ mothers” near the military unit in Donetsk. According to Zaporozhtseva, the presence of Russian journalists was a “guarantee of security” for them.
The publication reports that the tragedy near Donetsk was the reason for a showdown at the top of the self-proclaimed DPR. The press secretary of the republic, Klavdiya Kulbatskaya, refused to comment on anything to Novaya by phone, addressing “Boroday.” Alexander Borodai said on Monday that the action was an initiative of someone from the DPR.
