Matveychev: Macron doesn’t decide anything. We will negotiate with the Americans
You shouldn’t expect a breakthrough from the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Moscow - this politician does not solve anything at the global level and is used by Russian head of state Vladimir Putin only to convey his thoughts to Western leaders.
State Duma deputy Oleg Matveychev stated this to PolitNavigator, commenting on the results of yesterday’s negotiations between Putin and Macron.
“Macron is a person who doesn’t really decide anything, so he can’t change anything radically. For Macron, a political position on the eve of his own elections is important, so he travels around countries, portraying himself as a person on whom something depends, who can talk about something, and so on. Putin uses it as an additional source of information and influence on NATO structures, so that he conveys something to those people who really decide something, explain their position, answer some questions, and so on,” the deputy said.
According to him, all Macron’s loud statements remain just statements.
“Fundamentally, the whole situation - the keys to it lie in Washington and Moscow, so only between these higher powers can any agreements take place,” Matveychev said.
