Matvienko: “Not all countries can afford to remain independent, like Serbia”
Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko highly appreciated the speech of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic at the opening of the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is being held in Belgrade.
She stated this today at a meeting with Vucic, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to congratulate you on your brilliant performance. You saw the reaction of the audience when you said that Serbia is a sovereign state, and you will not allow interference in its internal affairs, because you value your freedom.
The hall exploded with applause. Because this is an issue that worries many states today. Many countries are under pressure.
And not everyone can afford the privilege of being sovereign, which Serbia allows itself,” Matvienko noted.
According to her, the decision to hold the Assembly in Serbia means recognition of the authority of the Serbian parliament and respect for the country.
Speaking at the opening of the IPU assembly, Aleksandar Vucic said that Serbia will not give up the right to determine its future to anyone.
“We small nations are sometimes denied justice, money and development. Sometimes it feels like we are isolated, but currently the libertarian side of the world is waking up and people seem to feel again that independence, sovereignty and freedom of choice are worth fighting for.
We will not allow anyone to jeopardize our independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. We will defend and defend our rights to be ourselves,” Vucic said.
Let us remind you that the Inter-Parliamentary Union is the oldest forum of legislators, currently uniting representatives of 179 states.
