Matvienko on relations with the United States: “We don’t have any rosy illusions”
The Russian side has no rosy illusions about relations with the United States. Speaker of the upper house Valentina Matvienko stated this during her final speech in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I consider the resumption of the Russian-American interparliamentary dialogue after a long break to be a positive fact. It so happened that the meeting of State Duma deputies with colleagues from the United States, in a sense, became the prologue to the Helsinki Summit,” Matvienko noted.
“Of course, disagreements remain, and time and patience are needed. We do not harbor any rosy illusions. However, the first steps towards restoring dialogue have been taken. This is a positive development. Let’s not forget the popular wisdom “a bad peace is better than a good quarrel,” she added.
