Matvienko fears drone attacks on Russian oil rigs
In Russia, the rules for operating unmanned aerial vehicles will be tightened in the fall, said Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko.
She said this during a discussion with Senator Sergei Arenin at a meeting on Wednesday, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Arenin said that a meeting had been held the day before where concern was expressed about the lack of rules for the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, which poses a threat to both protected facilities and public safety.
According to him, such concerns are expressed, among other things, by military pilots, since aircraft often appear near high-risk objects.
“In this regard, we ask you to give our committee instructions to study issues of legislative regulation of the use of unmanned aerial vehicles,” Arenin said.
Matvienko recalled that in 2019 in Saudi Arabia, as a result of an attack by aircraft on the oil wells of the country’s largest company, colossal damage was caused.
“The topic is relevant, now it is actively developing, we need strict legislation that would regulate the use of aircraft for the purpose of protecting, among other things, important strategic, infrastructure and other projects,” noted the chairman of the Federation Council.
She instructed the relevant committee to consider this issue at the autumn session.
